On August 24th, the 3rd annual Frank R. Noyes, MD and JoAnne Noyes, BS, RN Endowed Eminent Visiting Scholar in Sports Medicine and Bioengineering was held at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  The event is a combined effort with the Noyes Knee Institute, Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center, and the University of Cincinnati’s Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering Departments to promote MD-PhD bioengineering developments in orthopaedic surgery.  The event, funded by Dr. and Mrs. Noyes, brings renowned researchers and practitioners together to present on patient treatment advances for residents, fellows and staff at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

This year’s honored key note speaker was Edward Wojtys, MD.  Dr. Wojtys currently holds the following posions: William S. Smith Collegiate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery; Editor-in-Chief, Sports Health: A Muldisciplinary Approach; Co-Chair, National Football League (NFL) Musculoskeletal Research Committee and is the Men’s Lacrosse Team Physician for the University of Michigan.  He joined UM Faculty in 1985.  His research team’s work has been recognized by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) with 8 National Awards. Their work received the 2016 Kappa Delta Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) – the highest Research Award given by these Societies. The team’s research has been funded by the NIH and NIAMS (2007, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018), NFL, Coulter Foundation, Orthopaedic Research and Educational Foundation (OREF), and the Center for Organogenesis. In 2018, Dr. Wojtys was inducted into the AOSSM Hall of Fame, one of the Society’s highest honors, signifying his many contributions to the specialty of sports medicine.
